Contest Brief

I am having trouble finding the time to develop a business name for my specialized Digital Marketing and IT Consulting business. I need a name I can either (a) embed both services (digital marketing and IT consulting) under, to use as a legal business name and later branch a service trademark name for each service/service package or (b) a brandable name I can use or create a service trademark name that involves/implies both services.

Please read entire post below before submitting or reaching out.

A bit about the business...

- Digital Marketing services are targeted towards SMBs and non-profits. IT Consulting services are for SMB to Enterprise level businesses.
- Digital Marketing services include expert-driven online paid advertising services on Google, Bing etc., digital marketing strategy, website creation and maintenance, Analytics, online business listings, consulting/audits ...
- SMB and Non-Profit Start-up Packages, digital education, partnership and social consulting
- IT Consulting services include digital migration (from Small to Enterprise level), consulting and guidance for hiring staff and equipment, special projects ...
- Ran by women (can be related to the name but I prefer not unless it is really cool sounding and communicates expertise)

The direction of the brand:

- Perform best, secure, strategized, ethical, and powerful practices for SMB paid digital marketing and IT infrastructure initiatives
- Empower SMBs, Non-Profits, and NGOs to have easier access to these services and best practices, to develop business models and make community partnerships to meet goals
- List of leading values:
Candor, transparency, Genuine, Sincerity, Intentional, Ethical
Love of Learning, Mastery
Community, Cooperation, Partnership, Social Responsibility
Strategy, Determination, Development, Effectiveness
Non-Conforming, Sustainability, Value Creation
Attention to Detail, Commitment, Depth

Words/Concepts I like (please think beyond these words as well):

- Concept Words: Conscious, Like Honey, Village, Community, Collective, Synergy, Collaborative, Cooperative, Amity, Lotus, Enamor, Joy, Ethic, Nerdy, Mindful, Intentional
- Industry Words: Digital Marketing, Digital Resource, Digital Marketing & Development, Tech., Digital Marketing &; Integration, Digital Marketing & Modernization, Community Marketing, Co-Operative, Community Partnership, Strategy, Initiatives, Citizenship, Social Responsibility, Social Enterprise, Services, Modernization

I am looking for :

- A name I can either (a) embed both services (digital marketing and IT consulting) under, to use as a legal business name and later branch a service trademark name for each service/service package or (b) a brandable name I can use or create a service trademark name that involves/implies both services
- Hoping that it is brandable, please do not use the words Solutions or Global
- Can be easily spelled and said
- Cannot be already trademarked, website domain cannot be in use, and cannot be listed as a business on search.sunbiz.org. Must not be used by another digital marketing company.
- Preferably suggestive (evokes or suggests a characteristic of underlying goos, e.g. Amazon suggesting a mighty river of products). But can be arbitrary ("real" dictionary words used out of context), descriptive (immediately conveys an idea of the ingredient, qualities or characteristics of services), or fanciful (invented with no inherent meaning other than the one assigned e.g. Xerox).

Please read entire post above before submitting or reaching out. Submit a solid business name idea, get chosen, and win the prize! I may be interested in partnering with you as well to bring you more business in the future.

I am looking forward to your submissions,

Thank you.

    ???

    Are you joking?!!

I’m not sure whether I should be annoyed or amused right now. So, at the risk of sounding repetitive, I’ll ask again, are you joking?

If you weren’t keen on awarding someone who you couldn’t readily identify with -- someone who isn’t of the same race or of the same gender as that of yourself, then why even both posting a contest to begin with, when you could have just as easily hired someone directly? I’ve seen this all before, and had my suspicions, but never quite understood why, until now.

Dragging your feet to award someone, failing to award someone before the contest officially closes, and quietly awarding your “ideal” candidate well after the fact; all in an effort to defer responsibility. After all, if no one knows, no one will ask, right?

So, what precisely have you gained from all of this? Do you feel a sense of accomplishment from doing what you believe to be a social good? Or, more precisely, was this all done for the sake of a charitable cause? Whatever your reason, it looks like you’ve succeeded in wasting everyone else’s time -- everyone else who engaged you with good faith; believing that you were serious about getting a name for your business.

The issue isn’t so much your personal views as much as it is your candidness, or lack thereof. If you were only interested in working with certain people, then just say so. Why waste other people’s time unnecessarily? And, you can’t use quality as an excuse, because one of the other contestants made suggestions that the contest winner simply modified; suggestions all made in the very beginning; and suggestions all overlooked. As for why, I’ll let you answer that.

Sexism...racism...dress it up however you want...it all amounts to much of the same. Bias is bias. From the conversation you had with the contest winner in the early goings, it was an immediate red flag that your selection WOULD BE biased. It’s pretty ironic considering the fact that you want to start a business run by women. In fact, I’d say ‘comical’ is far more fitting. How does handing someone a victory empower them? You might as well have been handing out stickers with gold stars.

Now that you have the reins, what’s changed from when you were on the other side of the fence? By the looks of it, it all seems to be much of the same.

Thank you all for your hard work. I apologize for not having time towards the end to provide proper feedback. There must be a bug in the system- I am not able to fully post this message properly.

I may open the contest up again for a day or two to give the leading contestants a chance to re-submit ideas according to feedback. I will complete my review and let you all know. If I choose to re-open, I will provide more feedback prior to re-opening.

This is the criteria I used:
1 Star * Wrong Direction + Wrong Verbiage (Or ruled out verbiage i.e. "Global" or "Digi")
2 Stars ** Direction or Verbiage has potential with a lot of work if steered towards the right direction
3 Stars *** Right Direction or Verbiage but the other needs work
4 Stars **** Right Direction and Verbiage but needs refining to taste
5 Stars ***** Right Direction and Verbiage, can be used as my active Business Name

Hello. The contest deadline has run out and no winner has been awarded.

If you simply ran out of time, feel free to contact me here on Freelancer and I will be happy to help create a name based off of what you liked within my entry.

For now, I must withdraw my entry.

Thank you and have a good weekend.

    Contest Holder,

Any update for us? There’s a little over a week before your contest expires. Have you come to a decision on whether or not you’ll extend the deadline? In the event that you choose to award a winner, you should probably purchase the domain beforehand; just in case...

    Contest Holder,

Please remember to review all of the entries before deciding on a winner. From what I saw, there appears to be 60+ entries that haven’t been reviewed.

Also, be sure to go through due diligence in checking for domain name availability (godaddy.com), trademark availability (uspto.gov | search.sunbiz.org), and business name availability (uspto.gov | search.sunbiz.org); as I’ve noticed that some of the entries that you reviewed don’t have an available domain.

If you’re very busy throughout the course of any week, then perhaps you could commit to reviewing 10 entries or so per day? Then again, if you’re really, really busy, then you should probably consult your schedule and see when you’d have enough free time to review the remaining balance of entries all at once. It’s also a good idea to get input from your colleagues on any name(s) that you may be leaning towards.

    Contest Holder,

If possible, could you consider rejecting entries as a last resort, in the event that an entry has absolutely nothing to do with the contest specs outlined? Giving a 1-star rating would carry equal meaning.

    Also, see the links below.

      James,

Thank you very much for the tip. I am new to Freelancer. I read a post about engagement that said rejecting any entries that were definitely off the table would help engagement. For the record, I do comment before consider rejecting and that is my last resort.

Now that I know where to rank the posts- again, thank you - I will only be rejecting entries if there are clear issues with communication (i.e. rudeness) or some kind of spam.
