We are a company that makes custom challenge coins. Challenge coins are objects often traded or given away in military circles, and represent an organization or individual using a variety of imagery relevant to whatever the organization is. Searching through images will quickly give you an idea of the kinds of things that can go on them.

We want to design our own challenge coins to sell through an online store, and our first coins will be marketed towards each military branch: Navy, Marine Corps, Army, Air Force, and Coast Guard.

This first design is for the Navy. We are looking for something that encompasses the whole Navy, so Air, Land, and Sea. We can’t use Navy logos. Some ideas include ships coming out of the coin in a cool way and pattern relative to each other, including images of other things like aircraft. You could include any characteristic Navy uniform items, like the Dixie cup, or other imagery associated with the Navy, like an Eagle and especially the America flag or the colors. In general, there should be a lot going on with this coin, and each side should focus on a broad theme or idea.

It can have color, but should be limited. Also, although it looks cool we can’t do color blends or fades, there have to be clear stop and start points for different colors as they are hand painted. A lot of challenge coins have metal finishes, and some on this would be good. Antique gold and antique silver generally come out the best. We can make metal parts 3D, but if it has color it has to be 2D. The design can and should incorporate things that would be 3D, and it can also be any kind of shape or have cutout pieces too.

We have also attached images of coins that we like that are bit more creative than other coins in the past. We are looking for something that is similar to their artwork type but less busy and more focused on the theme. We also want a clean design that incorporates a theme clearly (think Naval battle). Coins do not need to be round, they can have areas that are cut out and come out of the coin. We are looking at creativity in the design as key, Be creative!

This is our first try with Freelancer, so we are offering $125 for a front and back image of the coin. It can be in JPG or AI. If we pick your design we would like to work with you long term on many additional designs.

Coin size can be any size. Please do not just make a logo, read the description. For some reason people keep posting logos and that is not what I need. Coins are two sided and I need designs for both sides.
