Contest Brief

I'm a ceramic artist and professor of art in Utah. I've been exploring sculpture through the medium of ceramics for 25 years. I've made pipes off and on since high school. I'm making them again. My brand is Shape Theory Collective. I will have a website called Shape Theory Collective, The boxes that these pipes are shipped in will have the logo Shape Theory Collective, and there will be an educational insert.

I will be donating a portion of proceeds to the Lat Prisioner Project, another/different organization whose mission .. "was founded out of the belief that if anyone is able to profit and build wealth in the legal cannabis industry, those individuals must also work to release and rebuild the lives of those who have suffered from cannabis criminalization".

My aim is to apply my skills in art and sculpture to making beautiful pipes that can be appreciated for their beauty and functionality. Also, every purchase will benefit a good cause. So my brand Shape Theory Collective is devoted to making pipes, and the purpose of shape theory collective is to donate a small portion to LLP.

Did you know that there are about 40,000 men and women in prison for non-violent cannabis use? Now that it’s legal in a majority of states, it’s appalling that these folks are still languishing in prison. Not only that, the folks that made the laws that put these hapless folks behind bars are now making money off of legalization. The war on drugs has devastated families and communities, particularly communities of color. I’ve made pipes off and on for years, starting in high school ceramics class. But now I’m making them for another reason, that is to raise awareness of this problem. With every purchase, Shape Theory Collective will donate a percentage to the Last Prisoner Project whose purpose is to free those that are being unnecessarily punished for something that is no longer even a crime.
