You are required to write on the following topic in 2,500-3,000 words (excluding references, bibliography and appendices). Is the EU Good for Business? You are required to write a management report on the topic above, commenting on the reality, positive or negative, of trading with a European Union (EU) that aspires to be a Single Market. You should illustrate your report with references to one or more companies doing business in Europe (it can be the company from Assignment 1 or any other organisation, but preferably an SME you know) commenting on the company’s current European trading approach. You should draw on all the key module themes, including i) macro-economic aspects such as the purpose and objectives of the EU, the current state of the EU and any relevant key geo-political themes ii) cross-cultural issues, drawing on the key cross-cultural frameworks and dimensions introduced in the module (Hall, Hofstede, Trompenaars) You should conclude with an opinion, supported by your justifications, as to whether the EU is broadly favourable or unfavourable for businesses? Your paper should also comment on key learnings you are taking into account in planning and undertaking the forthcoming European study trips. You may wish to consider the views of British business faced with a referendum on the UK's EU membership after the election in May 2015. Your submission should be in the style of a management report, containing academic references using the Harvard referencing system. You should use sources referred to in the lectures to help with your research. Guidance will be given in the seminar classes.
