A look at the spiritual beliefs of Nigerians in start up businesses - repost

This writing project requires the writer to prepare a 4000 word draft paper that will eventually be published in an academic journal. The research paper is to highlight the strong spiritualistic practices among many Nigerians in setting up a new business. Black magic also known as Juju is still very much practiced in Nigeria, although the practice of juju is highly secretive since Nigerians pride themselves in being one of the most religious nation in the world - over 90% of the people believe in God and actively practice their belief. I have collected some original data that is expected to be used in this paper. The findings of the research indicate that despite people claiming to be a Christian or Muslim, they will practice rituals to protect the business from curses and other evil thoughts. Here is a brief.... Ju-ju and Business in Nigeria Ju-ju is a kind of magic that has long been a pervasive part of Nigerian culture. It is related to, and has some similarities with, other forms of magic practiced all over Sub-Saharan Africa. It goes far back into history. It co-exists alongside Christianity, Islam, and economic and cultural “modernity”. It can be found in the same people as Christianity, Islam, and economic and cultural modernity, leading to a complex and contradictory reality. Ju-ju defined: Supernatural powers ascribed to an object or fetish; the use of such fetishes is a form of witchcraft. The fetishes today are small, intentionally crafted objects which have been blessed with incantations or which contain inserted Arabic scripts. Scripts can be written to ensure good business transactions among other things. The scripts are placed inside a necklace, bracelet, ring, or other ouches and tightly sealed. There are other forms of ju-ju but they are not the subject of this paper. Since ju-ju is such a pervasive part of Nigerian culture we can assume that it is used by business people. The purpose of this paper is to prove that it is used by business people, and to explain the various ways in which it is used. We explore why business people keep using it, and what they expect to receive from employing it. More will be shared later.
