Since I only just opened an account at freelancer.com, I cannot offer any of the usual site credentials here. What I can offer is the competence of a native bi-lingual writer in English and German, who is professionally fluent in French, has advanced conversation skills in Italian and (Modern) Greek as well as intermediate reading and listening comprehension in Spanish.
Not only do I have a M.A. in Communication Sciences, but also many years of experience doing In-Coming programs into the European Union. Meaning introducing people to the language concepts, thinking and culture which distinguish and shape the various countries. For those programs I’ve written a wealth of material – essays, working papers, speeches, articles, presentations - on many civic, social, economic and cultural issues.
In this context I’ve written about
- How modern German has eliminated Nazi-terminology and why that makes translations so difficult
- Why discussing Socialism in English is difficult to impossible, as it lacks the practical vocabulary
- The precision of culinary language as it reflects the importance of food and cooking in a culture
- Gender specifics in grammar and language – and their potential influence on gender role perceptions.
- The evolution of politically correct terminology in English, German and French
- Amiss- how the use transfer of English terminology into other languages often goes wrong
Please let me know in case you need any additional information.
