Hiring manager, You asked for brilliant writers and you have one in me. I am keen on quality. Here's a sample of one of my works. THE DRUM IS LEAKING. It has taken me a while trying to figure out how best I can describe the situation in North Eastern Province of Kenya. It has been considered "the forgotten land" for far too long, not because it is predominantly a muslim region or because it's far away from the capital town, Nairobi, but presumably for its non-productivity owing to long dry spells. The people of this region, mainly The Somali, have resulted to literally taking life into their own hands as they've concluded that the government has over the years ignored them. One may be forgiven for thinking there is no government in place after just a rare visit. From the unoperational county councils to the free trade of fire arms, albeit with the help of regular police ironically deployed to reinforce law and order in the area. The government dispensaries and public offices are run by natives who have absolutely no idea what good public relations entails. It is quite easy to distinguish a native from a visitor, in that the natives have distinctive soft curly hair and the women are fully covered in robes, popularly known as "buibuis", amid the fierce temperatures of 33+ degrees celsius. There is no brotherhood or sisterhood spirit among these residents, instead there is a lot of favourism if not nepotism depending on what religion or from which clan you hail. The rate of illiteracy is alarming in that, education, especially for the girl-child is not a priority, unless from the few elites connected to the other parts of the country. Girls are married off at very tender ages so long as the suitors can secure the bridal price, normally a herd of cattle and camels. Polygamy is allowed in all communities living here, hence, no place for a woman. They call it a "mans' world" and strongly beleive that a womans place is in the kitchen. Family planning is associated with the west and at that, is viewed as a borrowed culture depriving Africa its pride. It is never strange to find a woman with a large number of children, regardless the husband is working or not. Cases of a pandemic like HIV/AIDS is treated like a curse from God and the community believes it's supremely protected by its religion; Islam. The most recent census report from the Ministry of planning put the population figure at slightly over four million from the somalis alone. Though the government of Kenya was quick to refute reports that these numbers are as a result of illegal immigration from the neighbouring Somalia, anybody living here will readily agree that there's free movement from the ever-dangerous horn of Africa. Corruption has taken its toll in that, for some cash, the Kenyan police will let hundreds of Somali citizens daily into Kenya with some fake documentation. A recent revelation was carried out by a TV station and got so many people in shock, as some of the immigrants have already found their way into Nairobi and other commercial towns in the country. It'll be a matter of time before half of Kenyan population is made up of Somalis both from the north eastern part of Kenya and Somalia. Its about time the Government of Kenya took control of its own before it's too late. With the current illegal businesses going on in the country, thanks to these aliens, this country places itself in a very tight position that, over time, may be tough to get out of. Watch this space. and time.
