Hi There, I need to get a relatively simple pricing calculator made for my company. Fundamentally, what I need it to do is calculate the cost price of print orders bought from one of our suppliers. Attached is the price list for the company. The prices will need to exist in the back end of the calculator.
For most items, the calculation is relatively simple:
Example 1a: I would like to price up the cost of an order of
250 A6
140gsm
Colour on one side, BW on the other side
This would mean I take the unit price for this item and price break (5p) and multiply it by the quantity (250) giving me a total of £12.50.
However, there are also some finishing options that can apply. For example, if i wanted to laminate this item on both sides:
Example 1b:
250 A6
140gsm
Colour on one side, Black and White on the other side
Laminated on Both Sides
It would be £12.50 for the cost of the printing, plus 30p per unit (Lamination is 30p per side of A3. A4 is half of A3 but as I want both sides laminated, the total price per sheet is 30p. it would be 15p if I only wanted 1 side)
So the total price for this job is now £87.50
The most complicated section of the calculator is Booklet printing:
Information on Booklets:
-Booklets are stacked pieces of printed paper that are stacked on top of each other, then either double stapled and folded, or wirobound like calendars.
-They vary in size: A6, A5, DL [Third of A4], A4 and A3 [A3 only occur for wirobound booklets].
-The number pages for stapled booklets goes up to 52. And have to be divisible by 4- the reason for this is that if you take, for example, a page of A4 paper printed on both sides, fold that paper in half, then you are, in printing terms, left with a 4 page folded flyer. If you then stack and staple two of these pages then you are left with and 8 page booklet.
-Booklets can have different weight covers vs the inner pages. So for example a standard size
Example 2a:
100 A5 Booklets
32pp
Cover: 300gsm, Colour Both Sides
Inner: 140gsm, Colour Throughout
This would price up as follows:
Cover: 100x 300gsm A4 pages (you take A4 because this is the actually size that is printed before folding)
so...100 x 36p = £36
Inner Pages:
First you have to work out the number of inner pages: It is a 32pp booklets but we have already accounted for the 4pp that make up the cover. So we are left with 28pp. We want to work this out in terms of A4 rather than A5 so we then divide 28 by 4...giving us 7 pages of doubled sided A4. We are printing 100 booklets so we, in total are looking at 700 pages of 140gsm A4. 700 x £161
So the paper cost for al this is £197 (£161 plus £36)
However, we also have the finishing cost for booklets which is 10p. .1 x 100 = £10 so the total and complete cost for this order is £207
Colour can be a bit of an issue. Inner pages will alway be classed as the same throughout, i.e. Inner pages = Black & White Throughout, or = Colour Throughout. Cover pages, however, Can be:
-BW both sides,
-Colour Both Sides,
-Black and White one side/Colour on the other,
-Colour one One Side / Blank on the other.
-BW / Blank on the other.
Please note that by 'sides' I am referring to, in the example of an A5 booklet, the unfolded page of A4 that makes up the cover.
Wirobinding works differently: you do not fold the page, they are simple printed like flyers then bound down the left. 60p unit price. Colour vs BW varies on each page so will need to enter numbers of each page option

-Please make finishing options found on page 11 editable
-Please allow for discount. So we get x% discount of some items so I would like this to be factored in to the calculation. I would like this % to be editable. PLEASE BE AWARE THAT FINISHING PRICES ARE NOT SUBJECT TO DISCOUNT
-Please be aware that one page size is not taken into account here: DL. This size is a third of A4 paper and so has a third of its cost. I need DL sizes to be available in the calculator as well
