I could give you an overview of process of how I would approach it for the game market itself, however, this I feel, would not do your game justice, and would much prefer talking more specifically about the goals.
A little about myself - long history with games, marketing, in the trenches sales (and I mean, cold calls and door to door!), and scaling small businesses. Right now, I'm looking to expand out my major client roster, so am happily pursuing relationship building opportunities. A full, in-depth plan is going to more or less come down to your tolerance - and I mean, your tolerance for marketing expense (e.g. a plan for $200 is wayyyy different than a plan for $10,000). Consequently a "lean" startup plan, is again, very different than a "invest and hit the market," plan.
