Database Mass Update from Tab File

**Issue 1: Updating Data** We have a tab delimited file (TDF) generated each month. This file contains our updated inventory. The file format is consistent. The file has information on about 2500 items each month. Suggested Solution: * User navigates to a page with the update tool * The user chooses the tab-delimited file from their local machine through a web form * The file is uploaded to the server * The user then chooses a button called “begin processing?? * Code first deletes all records in the ITEMS table * Code parses the information from the tab-delimited file into the database * User is given success/failure dialog upon completion * If update fails (typically due to the TDF not conforming to standards), present the user with a dialog helping them to find the problem (line number or surrounding text) **Issue 2: managing picture files** Users update the inventory (ITEMS table) frequently by the above process. They need to build a list of what products have pictures uploaded on the site already and which do not. Suggested Solution: * Users upload pictures to …/PICTURES/ directory via FTP * Pictures are manually uploaded to sub-directories according to the first two letters in the product name (i.e [login to view URL] uploaded to directory …/PICTURES/aa/ * After uploading all new pictures, users need a report on any records in ITEMS table without associated pictures * User clicks button to run code that reads the name of each .jpg file in the directory …/PICTURES/… * Item numbers and .jpg files have the same name, and records and picture files are then balanced against each other to produce a list of items in the ITEMS table with no associated picture. ## Deliverables 1) Complete and fully-functional working program(s) in executable form as well as complete source code of all work done. 2) Deliverables must be in ready-to-run condition, as follows (depending on the nature of the deliverables): a) For web sites or other server-side deliverables intended to only ever exist in one place in the Buyer's environment--Deliverables must be installed by the Seller in ready-to-run condition in the Buyer's environment. b) For all others including desktop software or software the buyer intends to distribute: A software installation package that will install the software in ready-to-run condition on the platform(s) specified in this bid request. 3) All deliverables will be considered "work made for hire" under U.S. Copyright law.
