Adjustment on our featured product extension in Magento

Hello, We are at this very moment working on upgrading our winewebsite to the latest Magento release. On new site ([login to view URL]) we want to use the adjusted functions "Featured products" and "Selected Products" exactly the same way as we did on the old site ([login to view URL]). So we want to give our customers 3 wine suggestions based upon the selction of the "Subcategories of Wine being either red wine (rode wijn), white wine (witte wijn) or rosé wine (rosé wijn) and based on the selection/filtering of the attributes "herkomstland" (means country of origin) and "gebied" (local area of origin). On the new website ([login to view URL]) we have managed to get the visualization of our wine suggestions working. Regretfully we don't have the knowledge to get the selection rules *) right!
