Data analysis: Psychology

The current experiment tests this proposal people will generally recall more words that relate to themselves than words that have less personal relevance. In the experiment, each participant saw a series of words and after each they had to judge either whether the word related to themselves or whether it contained an ‘e’. The hypothesis is that they will recall more words they judged in relation to themselves than those they classified according to whether they contained the letter ‘e’. Data Analysis: The SPSS data file has three columns; the participant number, the proportion of self-words each participant recalled (SELF-HR) and the proportion of ‘e’ words each participant recalled (E-WORDS). You must: • Download this data file. • Perform an appropriate t- test to compare the number of correctly recalled words in both conditions • Determine whether there is a statistically significant difference between the conditions • Produce an appropriate graph showing the mean proportion correct in both conditions • Present the graph and correctly report the statistics in the results section of your report.
