This clearly illustrates the allure of telephonic interpretation services. By empowering the victim and paramedic with a simple handset, lives can be saved.
A relative new addition to the translation field, telephonic interpretation has grown rapidly since its inception ten years ago. Today there are a whole host of interpreters seemingly lurking around every corner. They offer their services to the entire industry from the private individual to the huge conglomerate. Some of them choose to freelance whereas others attach themselves to various agencies.
One of the biggest selling points is the considerable cost-savings relative to other translation modalities. There is no need to pay for the transport and physical equipment of the interpreter as required by simultaneous or consecutive interpreting. This allows for considerable flexibility and the removal of any limits related to geography. The conversation could actually be taking place on the moon for that matter, as long as the telephonic connection is secured!
The physical presence of the interpreter can actually be a hindrance in cases where sensitive issues need to be discussed. Examples may include a confidential corporate business transaction, specific religious requirement or highly personal subject matter.
