I've experience in developing trading systems applications in c++ which includes database operations. I've worked with an oracle 11g database on Linux platform using C++. I'm also very much familiar with basic sql queries. My opinion is to connect to the database through an ODBC connection so that you can switch the DB (MSSQL, MySQL, ...). Original ODBC C API or a c++ (Object Oriented) wrapper can be used.
