Assignment Description
You should design the network topology for the new building. They have had problems with internal failures in the past therefore they have the following requirements for their network:
**1.** resilient to failure
**2.** easily maintainable
**3.** easily expandable
Your report should include the following items:
**1.** your network design - which meets the requirements of resilience, maintainable and expandability
**2.** a robust analysis that shows your design meets the requirements
In order to robustly test your network design you should use ns2. You do not need to test your design for more than 1 hour of simulated time, you should make sure you perform robust tests.
The company has left room for growth so only 50% of its of?ces seats are used. For ease of testing you may assume that the only application in use is WWW to external websites -
the cache and server should be placed outside of the network.
Tasks
This assignment breaks down into three tasks:
**1.** Design your network
**2.** Prove your network - show that your network is able to transport the workloadthat it is resilient to failure
**3.** Write a report describing you network design and its suitability for this task

Things to consider
Running a large simulation in ns2 can be time consuming and create very large trace ?les if you use the trace-all command. I suggest you either use the speci?c method for tracing or only trace the packet ?ows at speci?c nodes in your network - for example at speci?c key routers.
You can use low network link bandwidths during the development of your network simulation in order to speed up the testing only once you are happy with your design should be run it at the full link speeds.
Performing an experiment just once doesn't give you a sound basis for a conclusion you will therefore need to perform any performance experiment multiple times in order to perform a robust analysis of the performance.
Scenario
The building has been designed with the intention that the business will be able to grow in the future. The of?ce space has been designed so that each of?ce can accommodate more than one person, although it is expected that some of?ces will house one person.
The building will consist of three ?oors.
Ground ?oor
It consists of the following:
? One 120 seat call center
? One 40 seat IT of?ce
? Two 20 seat of?ces
? One 3 seat reception of?ce
? One 3 seat technicians of?ce
First ?oor
It consists of the following:
? One 80 seat support of?ce
? Three meeting rooms - one computer per room
? Five 3 seat of?ces
? Two 4 seat of?ces
? Fifteen 2 seat of?ces
Second ?oor
This ?oor is a mix of management and meeting rooms. It consists of the following:
