Books make no money. Movies or shows do. I am looking for a partner. I wrote the novel, now I need a screen writer to partner with if they feel like it can be a money maker. Specifically, I need someone to help me write a pilot so that my west coast agent can go sell it to someone...so it had better be dark, mean, and uncompromisingly truthful!
Most parents believe that public schools are effective because they were when the parent was in school. The kids and most teachers know otherwise. I believe this has a very large potential market as a series or movie. I need to find the right writer who can turn this novel (unpublished) into either a screen play or series of screenplays. I'm looking for the person who is willing to show the system in all its glorious failure.
“Schoolville” is a fictionalized account of my first year teaching in a Texas public high school, and is mainly drawn from that time of my life, the story does contain recollections covering my entire four-year teaching career.
I have been roundly criticized in this novel for being sexist because so many of my characters are women. All I can offer in my defense is that over 95% of the teachers, and nearly every administrator with which I worked were women. Believe me, if I had worked with more men, they would be here too. Unfortunately, few of them have the patience to put up with public schools. Take a look at how many young men are dropping out as high school students. Is it any wonder so few return to become teachers?
I was mesmerized daily by the rich absurdity of the school and the people within that institution. This book is a direct result of me laughing at something nearly everyday, and promising myself that if, “I ever put this into a book, no one would ever believe me.” I kept a copious diary, so it's real!
