1) Draw on at least TWO theorists covered on the module to investigate the links between ‘self’, ‘sign’ and ‘society’ as evidenced by a recent phenomenon on Facebook or similar social networking sites. Kanye West ‘breaking the internet’ with the wearing of trumps ‘make america great again hat’, Although he had the purest of intentions, by claiming he wanted to ‘add love to trumps political brand’. The way he went about doing that was irresponsible, by simply putting the hat on his head he was setting himself up to be misunderstood. He aligned himself with a sign that already with a meaning heavily interwoven into it. So when the media captured him walking around his California, Calabasas home.. they do not see a man trying to get the public to understand Trump from a different perspective they see a rich black man disconnected from his ‘roots’ or African American identity, The black community was so outraged because in the last few years in mass media African Americans have felt victimized for cultural appropriation specifically in regards to hairstyles For the reason being that hairstyles became such a large part of African americans identity because so much was taken from them what was cherished and held near to their heart was what parents could pass down to their kids such as recipes instruments and hairstyles.. and to cover one of the most defining attribute of his identity in order to push trumps policies was hurtful to everyone.
