I need a qualified industrial controls or electrical engineer to tell me the right way to do this. I don't need detailed drawings or renderings or anything, just a specification of the correct off-the-shelf parts that I can order and hand to an electrician to wire together. I have a large (750 L) saltwater aquarium heated with an inline heater in the water circulation system. The heater's built-in analog thermostat in the is not accurate or adjustable enough for our needs (we need +/- 0.1 C at 35 C). I'd like to supersede it by wiring a power relay in series with the heater's power supply, and use that to turn the heater on and off as required. I believe it's possible to connect the 12 V control signal from a cheap off-the-shelf thermo controller, like for instance an Inkbird Inkbird ITC-1000. What I don't know is if there are other parts required or features I need to worry about (I think I want a non-latching relay, for instance, but I'm at the limit of my knowledge here). The heater operates at 240 V, 30 A, so fairly beefy relay is required, and I don't want to mess around with that kind of current. Also I am not sure if additional control circuitry is required. The heater operates in a damp environment, and I am not sure if that adds additional requirements. What I want is a list of certified parts that I can order off-the-shelf in the USA, and a circuit diagram to hand to the electrician who puts it together for me. The heater model is: Coates 6ILS, [login to view URL] Please respond with your qualifications, and confirm your understanding of what the work product will be.

Hi there, you definitely need a custom thermostat and I will help you accomplish that I will design a heater controller that can be powered from a 12Vdc ( or 5Vdc) supply I am going to pick a waterproof temperature sensor model: DS18B20 that gives +/- 0.5 C accuracy ( -10°C to +85°C ), we can hardly get a +/- 0.1 C that you need and yes there are bunch of power relays capable of withstanding 30A, I will help you pick one too I will design a Bluetooth based app that to let you interact with you aquarium system to control heater on/off, or adjust set point for the controller I will make the best custom controller, just send me a message so we can chat more

Hello, I am an Electrical Engineer with 30 years’ experience of Customized Product Development for Instrumentation and Control applications. I am based in Kolkata (India) and running a business in the name of "Zetek Systems". I have a good hardware setup and a team for fabrication and testing. From my experience I can tell you that it is very difficult (almost impossible) to control the temperature of that volume of water so accurately with ON/OFF control through relay/ contactor. You have to deploy more precision control. Looking for your valued reply. Regards - Debasis Basu

Hello, I am electronics engineer with experience in automation systems. I have read your project. In this type of projects that require drive high AC loads I always use professional components like magnetic TeSys contactors from Schneider Electric (I have one of them in my hand, I can send you a photo, it is dear but very reliable), if you need control the heater you can connect the ITC-1000 output to this type of contactors. Please, contact me on chat for details, I could send you the wiring diagram of the power system but I need to know every specification. Thank you

This should be a relatively straightforward case with the aux contacts of InkBird ITC-1000 driving a power relay or a contactor to drive your 6kW heater. For humidity, it is best to enclose the entire thing in a sealed enclosure so that the worst of the humidity stays out. These devices are usually rated to operate at high humidity >90% as long as it is non condensing. Condensation can lead to phase to phase short circuit. I don't think that this is going to take too long so I have quoted for 2 hours of work @ $40 USD an hour. I will select a relay/contactor for you and share some hand drawn wiring sketches on how they should be connected. I presume that you will take care of the ITC-1000 setting on your own. I've worked for 10 years in industrial Electrical systems and such work was fairly routine. The only concern is that the ABB or Siemens relays/contactors that I have worked with may not be easily available or cost effective for you so we'll have to find alternative makes. Regards, Sujoy

Hi ,I m vijender having experience of 10year in electronics and having design experience on water heter controller, whirlpool and spa . the water heater we developed was 25 to 50 liter model with a load capacity of 2 to 7k watt . the accuracy will depend on the sensor and we have to develop calibration mechanism as temperature sensor out put not linear as per temperature so normal reading method always creat problem . we can go with normal relay if that can support such current as always need to select any component 4 to 5 over rated to avoid any in rush current handling issue .so 50 to 60 amp relay will work but need to find part for same . as for such current you will get latch relay . we can discuss more once you allow to work .

Greetings, From what you said on the description of the project, your need consist in controlling the heater depending on the real temperature of the aquarium. I am an Industrial Electronics Technician and an Electrical Engineer with knowledge of instrumentation, electronics and control systems design (PLC, HMI, PCB). That being said, I can use those knowledges to give you a very fair solution to your needs. I work with Altium Designer, Proteus, Autocad Electrical and others. I've done Allen Bradley, Schneider Electric, G-Soft, Zelio Soft and AutomationDirect's PLC programming, as well as HMIs. I already know some of the parts that you will need to succeed and i will give you any explanation needed from you to get this done, so feel free to get in contact as soon as you wish. Regards.

Hi. I have a lot of experience in upgrading various equipment. According to your task, I know an effective and inexpensive way to implement this work. Although it will require you to tweak the pipes (temperature sensor installation) and time to fine tune the regulator. The regulator you have chosen can’t be used to solve this problem, since its Measuring Accuracy ± 1 oC. Not to be confused with Resolution 0.1 oC To implement the project can use parts from Amazon or Aliexpress.
