With large duty cycles (24/5, 24/3.8), they typically have efficiencies of 80% or less, that means 20% or more of the input power will be dissipated as heat. If you did your thermal calculations, you would have seen that you are way OVER the limit stated in the data sheet. Plus, any time you see a design that requires a SNUBBER, STAY AWAY, it's not for a novice! *********** NOTE from TI regarding the eval board: FAN: This evaluation module includes components that can get hot to the touch, because this EVM is not enclosed to allow probing of circuit nodes, a small fan capable of 200-400 lfm is recommended to reduce component surface temperatures to prevent user injury. THE EVM SHOULD NOT BE LEFT UNATTENDED WHILE POWERED [wonder why??]. The EVM should not be probed while the fan is not running. [ Plus this is with ONLY a 12V input] Regards, Jim
