This was done many years ago and is quite a popular augmented reality live example [url removed, login to view]
It involves a mat stuck on the ground. A camera filming that area and a big screen nearby where the people standing on the mat can see themselves on a live video stream. A 3D character pops up and it looks like they are interacting with the person. If I am correct there is a person sitting there on-site with a laptop bringing up the 3D characters with different animations...meaning this example is a faked AR event as they have pre-programmed animations and they just select one and it plays.
I have a client looking to do something similar with 10 characters with varying animations. The point is to make this fun to watch and a fun experience to take part in. This will go live in December. So, we have about a month or so to do this. I'll get guys to do the characters and animations so that is not a problem if you can not handle that.
The main thing for now - is to see if you can do this... how we can do this? Must it be faked and manually controlled on site like this example or have we got newer better ways that this can be done now? Please advise.
