Assignment Instructions: Your task for this assignment will be to write a 4-page reflection paper on religion and the natural world. We have considered a number of different religious texts focusing on creation and flood stories, and we have also considered more generally how different religions (Hinduism, Islam, Christianity) view the natural world and how humans relate to it. Your reflection will focus on how these different texts and traditions help us to think about nature and the natural world and human involvement and responsibility in it. For this reflection assignment, choose 3 different texts that we have read (or portions of these texts) and reflect on these texts in the follow ways: • To begin, identify different texts that you think have implications for the purposes of this assignment (see bolded text above). • What are the implications this text has about the natural world itself and how humans relate to it and ought to be involved with it? • In your discussion/reflection of each text, draw in interesting issues/questions/concerns etc. that arose from your reading and our discussion of them? Evaluation: I am looking for critical engagement with these texts and traditions. Do not simply tell me what the text is saying, reflect on it. Ask questions about what you have read and push yourself to reflect at a deeper level. Citation: You must include actual references (quotation, paraphrase, summary) to each of your 3 chosen texts and cite them properly using footnotes and a bibliography (please use Chicago style citation). You can also cite the lectures. Note that any reference (quotation, paraphrase, summary) must be cited in a footnote.
