Customized KML Map Export Tool

We would like for users to be able to build custom KML and then export to Google Maps or the application of their choice. An example of the maps can be seen here > [login to view URL]

Full description of this project is in the slightly longer text file ([login to view URL]), though I've tried to capture the main points here.

Here's how this will work: The user does a query. Latitude and longitude is (always) part of the query output. There may be lat/long + 20 numerical fields. User clicks on a link to export as KML. A popup or new page presents users with options. User chooses one of the numerical fields (out of 20 or so). Then selects “collada,” then a color from a drop-down menu (or swatch area). User can then add another data field (think up to 4 total) to the KML export. All of these become placemarks in the exported KML.

Once the user is done selecting data fields (think we will limit them to 4 colladas or shapes), s/he hits export and the KML is generated. It asks the user to download or open in some application (standard browser download).

There are two addition parts to this KML export, but because of the character limit, I've had to include the full project proposal in a text file ([login to view URL]).

The first is that we need to provide a legend for the end user. And we will probably add some language to this popup.

The second issue is a bit more advanced. If you take a look at the sample data included with this project ([login to view URL]) some of the numbers are huge.  A spud_to_start_date of 16,000 days is going to make for a very, very tall collada. Will be super hard to see the tops. In the video at the beginning of this description, we see the issue pretty clearly (light blue colladas).

This is fully explained in the full project description in the text file.

Other minor remaining items (explained in the full text description):

* Add a configurable scale to the export

* Polygons, with options on other shapes.

* Popups on each polygon.

* Possibly map markers

Finally, we will be integrating your code with a larger project. Here is a note from the coder who will be integrating the KML Builder [login to view URL] Looks like POJO is not critical.

Please understand. We are totally (very!) open to your ideas. If want to suggest different “models,” we are totally game for making this KML export more advanced.

Thanks!
