I have developed a training tool for cutting horse trainers to train their horses with this device we call The Cattle Saver. It's a mechanical cow that runs on a track system, moving the cow back and forth. It runs on an electrical motor and cable pulley system. It is controlled by a computer and a remote controller with simple left and right buttons. The cow turns left and right 180 degrees with a clutch that engages and disengages when you go left or right so it turns and faces the direction you want it to go, then when you stop it and go the other direction the cow turns and stays in that direction until you stop and turn it again.

What I want to accomplish and improve on it hopefully with your help. Is for the cow to turn quicker and more precisely through the turn around. Right now with the clutch it floats and does not stop precisely when you let go of the button of the remote in the middle of the turn at 90 degrees straight facing you. Also I would like it to stop quicker once it establishes a full 180 degree turn. Right now there is a 1-2 second delay from when you let go of the remote control button to when it actually stops.

I am not sure if there is a different device like a gear system or an independent motor to accomplish this or not. I am open to different ideas. In the end I just want it to be consistent and reliable and not break down all the time.

Here are 2 videos of it running:

Hey! So I don’t know if you’re already using a servo motor or not but there’s a way with the use of servo motors and proximity sensors and stop tabs that you can make it up to .001 thousandth of an inch precise. You ca More
