Music Composition - 17/08/2017 18:12 EDT

My brother and I have been rotoscoping for the last year so the thought of this project being paired to music (and thusly completed) is a joyous one. This is the first time that we have pursued original music for a project but the very nature of our effort demanded something custom. We have completed a (90%) silent, 30 minute (the job is not for the duration), 16mm, b&w film named, "The Longneck Goodbye." The film is about an amiable stiff overcoming the loss of his mother through an intense but brief friendship with a very much real, baby brontosaurus. This was shot across Brooklyn and Downtown from 2015-2016. My brother and I are fascinated by testing the dexterity of "tone." We embrace anachronistic pairings of image and music. The film carries the aesthetic of a 70's underground and the visual playfulness of a Chaplin while tackling a modern story in a deliberately form-subverting way. We want BIG music for the minor character moment and genuine feeling when most current films would veer away. We want the film to be able to vault from tragic, to buoyant, and then up a hill to sweepingly romantic. This can only be achieved through the right score. The score will be one of the stars of the film. This is a silent movie that relishes the "limitations" of an imposed academy ratio. In the spirit of playing in that seldom-visited sandbox we need compositions that intersect the old and new. Film literacy is preferred but NOT necessary. We want someone willing to explore. The project will require that the dinosaur have a reoccurring theme. The dinosaur is a human character and operates as a legitimate co-star. We have been using "Gassenhauer" by Carl Orff as a temp theme. The film has been edited over a year to several tempt tracks (which can be shared if the composer is interested) but the tracks are a suggestion. We think this project is at the very least quite...unique. We are in pursuit of a score that is equally as singular. We are looking for a collaborator that can get as passionate about invention as we are. We want you to see this as an opportunity. The intention is for this to play festivals all over the world thus providing a global platform for your contribution. We have worked in film distribution and know the routes to festival play but this is our inaugural run as the creatives. This is the last step to completing the project. Think, "Babe" meets "Blue is the Warmest Color" by way of a Robert Downey, Sr movie. We looking forward to hearing from you.
