I've been working with databases in general since 1986 when I started writing dBase applications, and have been working with MySQL since 2000. The down and dirty way to generate an execel spreadsheet is to write a script in PHP, Visual Basic or what ever is available to generate a CSV file, and either save it to disk or direct the output to a browser where the user can save it to their hard drive. The CSV file can then be opened with excel. What exactly are your requirements? Are there any formulas in the output spread sheet? Are there any formatting requirements e.g. numeric formating of columns time/date, currency or text size/background colors?
