"WebStore" Project Brief

______________________________________________________

Dear developer,

We plan to offer a (free) service to our clients, whereby we provide an e-commerce solution to them, pre-populated with our own products (as available in our

hard-copy catalog), and with the ability to add their own.

In order to move forward with the development of the project, we require a developer who has worked with and is familliar with the OSCommerce/OSCMax package

to carry out a set of specific modifications, which i have detailed below.

We aim to put the service into a testing phase where 4 of our clients will trial the service, prior to our scheduled release date of 10th January 2008.

Please review the modifications we require as detailed below, and if you feel confident and would like to take on the project, please submit a bid.

Notes:

Please accept my appologies if i have missed any obvious detail you may require...

If you need any additional information, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Please do not take offence, but ideally i'd like a UK based developer to take on this project, simply for the fact that it would be much easier in terms

of time and communication, however, i will not totally disregard international developers; Though I have experienced in the past a breakdown in communication

due to language barriers.

In terms of time-frame/deadlines, i'd like to have this project in a state where the functionality could be demonstrated by the end of November 2007, with

the intention to launch in January 2008.

Regarding access to FTP and PHPMyAdmin, I will setup the necessary accounts for FTP and access to the databases for the developer to work on.

Thank you for your time - We look forward to working with you.

__________________________________________________________________________

An outline of the project and our requirements:

__________________________________________________________________________

The idea is to base the service on the popular "OSCMax" software, with modifications to reflect the following functionalities:

Using OSCMax, we wish to offer an e-commerce solution to our clients, where their own shop will be setup by us. Once this has been setup, the client will

have access to an admin area, as with a typical OSCMax install, however, certain features will need to be disabled to avoid changes that could be a threat to

the functionality of the whole system.

_________________________________________________________________________

Templating/Visual Presentation:

__________________________________________________________________________

We plan to have a global template for all clients, where the only thing that will change is the header, which would contain the clients' branding (name,

address, contact no., logo, etc). Ideally, this single template would make use of "hot swappable" CSS stylesheets to allow simple changing of colour schemes

from each admin admin area and the chosen colour sceheme would be stored/remembered for each account.

** i believe this is functional in OSCMax by default - if not, maybe the "STS" system? **

_________________________________________________________________________

Databases (Categories & Products):

_________________________________________________________________________

Upon setup, a client's shop should be populated/ready with the company categories and products, which i have ready and available to the developer who takes

on this project.

Clients should be able to add products and categories to their shop, but not be able to modify those that were there initially (the company products);

The products that clients add to their shops may be *placed* within the existing categories or in new ones, but it is essential that the products and

categories cannot be changed by the clients;

ONLY the main admin should be able to modify the original products and categories from the main admin area, and any changes to these products should be

reflected across all clients' shops.

Where a client has added new products and placed them in either the existing categories, or in new ones, these should be exclusive to them, for example;

Mike has a shop setup and initially this has 9 categories, holding a total of 4400 products, which had been pre-populated. Mike adds 2 products to his shop

via his admin area and places one in the existing "Computer Accessories" category, and the other into a new category called "Mobile Phone Accessories".

All other clients who have an online shop should not see those 2 new products.

I.e., any products that were not pre-populated should be stored in a database exclusive to the client/shop.

Please see the following url for an example front-end for the project;

Shop: [url removed, login to view]

Admin: [url removed, login to view]

User: dev

Pass: access

Other Info/Requirements:

_________________________________________________________________________

- Each client should have access to an admin area, as with a typical/normal install of OSCMax, however, any changes in the admin area should only effect

their own shop, not others.

- they should not be able to access anything in the admin area that could destroy or cause any problems with the software, or that they do not need access

to, for example,

"Configuration > Sessions", "Configuration > GZip Compression", etc.

(The system will be used by clients who are not extensively technically abled, so needs to be simplified with as less options as possible).

- Product prices should be displayed as both Excluding VAT and Inclusing VAT

- SECPay should be the payment gateway used by default

- The "New Customer"/Registration for a new user account should be disabled on all shops as a default, as our clients do not operate a buying service open to

the public - the clients will assign accounts to users themselves via their admin area.

- The admin area should have a feature where a "free shipping over £[url removed, login to view]" can be specified.

- A key requirement is that the shop is based on a UK install. In my experience with OSCommerce/OSCMax in the past, i have found that the default setup is

that of a US based shop, so the counties/states are all US based. I have not yet managed to resolve the issue in order to have these options set as UK Based

counties, states, etc.

- Currencies should be (£) pounds sterling by default - No other currencies will be used, as ALL shops will be UK based and only deliver to UK based

locations (including Ireland).

Once again;

Please accept my appologies if i have missed any obvious detail you may require...

If you need any additional information, please do not hesitate to contact me.

be issuing the developer a "bonus" for successful work within the constraint of the deadline(s).
