Please note that there are 2 parts to this project.

Part 1:

This part will require you to create multiple backups of databases and then to restore the databases from the backups you've created. Again it is essential that you take screen shots and detail the critical steps in the process so that your instructor can see the process and choices you've made along the way.

Perform backups of the database you created in Unit 2 (I will send this to you) and the Northwind database.

Before you perform the backup of either database, create a table named Unit4_Table with two columns named Name and Date. Add a row in this table with your name and the date.

Perform a Transaction Log backup of the database you created. Remember to take screen shots of the process with your explanation of the steps and choices you make. Name the backup Tham_transLogBackup.

Perform a Full Database Backup of the Northwind database. Again take screen shots and provide explanations. Name this backup Tham_nWindBackup.

Create a copy of the Northwind database using the backup you created.

Name the new database Northwind2.

Provide a screen shot showing all the databases in your SQL Server in the navigation tree and showing a details view of the Northwind2 tables in the right hand pane.

Delete the original Northwind database.

Perform a restore of the Northwind database.

Name the restored database nWindRestored.

Take screen shots of the process you took to restore the database with explanations of your steps.

## Deliverables

Continued from above..

Be sure to include the screen shots and explanations in a Word document. I will also need the actual backup files that were created. They are by default located in C:\SQLServer\MSSQL\BACKUP

The part has somewhat unfortunate wording. It is not necessarily a literal ``copy,'' but can be, for example, a new database, instantiated especially to receive a forced overwrite restoration. A ``copy'' can also be achieved by other means (it is rare when there is only one way to do a task in a complex program). When making explanations, be sure to attribute any sources you use. Also, be sure to include a s/s of the nWindRestored d/b in table view, with the Unit4_Table showing in the right-hand pane. This implies that you must create Unit4_Table in both the art and Northwind databases.

Part 2:

Requirement: 2 - 4 paragraphs in a word document

Please discuss what you believe to be a good backup and crisis management strategy considering the following scenario. Provide a detailed explanation of your choices. Be sure to cite your sources.

You work for a small consulting firm with a sterling reputation for high-quality work and outstanding technical aptitude. You’ve been assigned as the SQL Server 2000 DBA for an e-commerce project based in coastal Florida. Your client is a well-financed, Internet startup firm focusing on creating an online billing system for large hospitals. As a startup firm, they have limited financial resources and must stringently manage their budget.

There are three database environments for your project: development, staging, and production. The development enviroment is for the web development to create and test their modules and code. The staging environment is where the various components are assembled and tested as a whole. The production environment is the environment that will eventually be your deliverable to the client and will migrate to become the live web presence for the start up.

The client has approached you in the database server room. She’s heard there is severe weather coming to the area that may escalate to hurricane status. She would like you to describe in the detail the backup strategies you’ve developed for each database environment. She'd really like to know how you can save the company money by applying differing backup and crisis management systems to the varying database environments.

1) Complete and fully-functional working program(s) in executable form as well as complete source code of all work done.

2) Deliverables must be in ready-to-run condition, as follows (depending on the nature of the deliverables):

a) For web sites or other server-side deliverables intended to only ever exist in one place in the Buyer's environment--Deliverables must be installed by the Seller in ready-to-run condition in the Buyer's environment.

b) For all others including desktop software or software the buyer intends to distribute: A software installation package that will install the software in ready-to-run condition on the platform(s) specified in this bid request.

3) All deliverables will be considered "work made for hire" under U.S. Copyright law. Buyer will receive exclusive and complete copyrights to all work purchased. (No GPL, GNU, 3rd party components, etc. unless all copyright ramifications are explained AND AGREED TO by the buyer on the site per the coder's Seller Legal Agreement).
