I have been working in the field of optics and photonics for over a decade. I completed my Ph.D. at Bristol University, a UK “red brick” university, in 2014 in the field of optical physics. Since that time I have performed fundamental research at 2 leading research departments. In addition to fundamental research, I have been responsible for the design, development, prototyping and testing of a variety of products at a £multi-billion defence company, of which my products are currently available as part of their product palette. In my current role, I am the resident expert in photonics, where I am responsible for taking a number of projects to market.
During my time working in this field, I have built up a broad skillset that is ideally suited to freelancing. These skills include:
Matlab programming - Advanced, especially in the field of data processing, script writing, image processing and machine vision.
Optical Engineering (inc. Zemax) - A wide experience in taking a project from concept through to market. Can utilise Zemax in both sequential and non-sequential capacities to optimise and tolerance designs.
Image processing - Write script to process images in order to optimise them for a given property. This can be noise removal, smoothing, contrast enhancement, FFT filters etc. My particular expertise is in image processing for machine vision.
Machine Vision - Getting software to automatically recognise features in an image and then communicate this to hardware.
