a social media web site is pretty simple you can expect same quality as udacity,courcera and same as fb, insta . but the news feed in home directory of your user will be complicated as simple web server will not be able to support this , thus developing the project is easy but maintaining the quality and service will cost you , as developers will not warn you as their part is development ,for example a web server with mysql of 1gb ram can support only a 1000-10000 simultanious connections , for more details see the pricing of google,azure ..mysql hosting service ...contact me for more info...!
