I have more stamps on my passport than years on my birth certificate. I understand the term opportunist has a negative connotation but on the other hand, if you're not actively looking you will never find anything. So, I travel. I meet people, I learn, I experience. Then, I write. The reason I want to work freelance? It is an opportunity to do it all.
While my favorite pieces to write resemble the fiction of classic literature (my degree is in Russian Lit and English composition) I find interest in all writing ventures. I have published business content, travel articles, parenting columns, etc, in print and web platforms all of which I thoroughly enjoy. Each project is a possibility to explore a concept in a way guaranteed to be new because writing is a distinctly unique accomplishment. Due to this individualistic nature of the job, I am often asked if being a writer feels reclusive. For me, it never does. Writing grounds me in a sense of appreciation. Each moment I observe and scribble down reminds me of all the moments documented before my time. Writing in any context is a timeless link between humanity. Essentially, each writing proposal an employer needs has that ultimate goal, to connect and engage. Freelance writing creates the chance to live in and among the world while connecting it, quite an appealing concept.
