Seasoned translator with 20 years of experience in written English to Spanish and Spanish to English translation, as well as over 12 years of experience as field translator for the oil industry.
Spent the last 10 years working for an important oil services company in Venezuela, where the first five years were as the official technical translator for the Latin American region, prior to moving to a field ops position and then business development and sales, but always providing language support, including but not limited to, assisting foreign personnel with interpreting tasks. During this time I translated user and service manuals for specialized oil & gas production optimization hardware and software, plus sales documentation, bids, proposals, legal documents, inter-company communications and carried out the localization project of a huge database (over 300.000 entries) for a new software suite designed to manage all stages of an oilwell. Also contributed to localization efforts for oilwell modelling software and translation of petroleum consulting training courses. Samples of most of these translation jobs can be provided upon request.
Prior to all this, I worked as a field interpreter assigned to the Hook-Up & Commissioning (HUC) Dept. of the Venezuelan Extra-Heavy Oil Project (VEHOP), former Petrozuata (ConocoPhillips - PDVSA joint venture), during a whole year, working on 28x28 shifts.
My areas of interest and specialization cover the oilfield (drilling, completion, operations), IT (hardware, software, Internet, networking), music technology (instruments, recording gear, digital audio), music journalism (magazine articles, interviews), literature (especially sci-fi) and scientific divulgation (physics).
