Welcome to the eighth wonder of the world, the Citadelle Laferiere is a must see during your visit to Haiti. The largest fortress of its kind in the Western Hemisphere, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site stands majestically on top of the Bonnet a L’Eveque mountain, three thousand feet above the sea. Citadelle Laferiere was built between 1805 and 1820 by King Henry Christophe to defend the new nation against French invasion. The fortress stands tall, bristling with 350 cannons and mortars and overlooking the bay of Cap-Haitian. This historic tour starts with a car ride to a small town Millot. Our proficient Tour Guide will pick you up from your Hotel in a 4x4 car. Our first stop will be a tour of the ruins of the Sans Souci Palace, the Residence of King Henry Christophe, yet another UNESCO World Heritage Site. This magnificent palace was the site for opulent feasts and dances. However, the earthquake in 1842 severely damaged the palace which was then never rebuilt.
