Contest Brief

We are looking for an AC fan speed controller. The AC fans in question are Orion OA4715-12TB operating at 120V/3000 RPM with a 0.3A current draw. The 230V version, OA4715-23TB operates at 230V/3000 RPM with a 0.23A current draw.

Unlike all the standard triac/diac controllers out there, we require that at the lowest setting with the potentiometer, the fans be at 1500 RPM, and at 100% with the potentiometer, they be at full power. The controller needs to be able to support up to 9 fans if needed and a minimum of 3 fans. We will post specifications of the fan shortly. We require Schematic and Bill of Material only. We will lay out the PCB ourselves.

The controller needs to support both the 120V and 230V variants. Voltage selection, if not automatic can be selected at time of assembly depending on the piece of equipment it will be installed in.

We will work with the designer on raw component specifications based on price/availability in the U.S. once determined by the designer.

Can the fan be a four wire fan? The speed control can be with a pwm. OA109AP-11/22-1WB is 4 wire fan, with the same dimensions and airflow output.
