Contest Brief

I've spent 40 years as an aerospace engineer, starting as a mechanic on B-52's in the Airforce, earning my degree in Mechanical Engineering, and spending much of my career developing systems for airplanes. I'm also an avid sailor. I've got an idea for a tattoo that encompasses all that.

The 8 tooth gear is the international symbol for mechanical engineering, and would be the centerpiece of the tattoo. This would be done in 3D perspective. Flying into the gear from the left is a silhouette of a B-52 airplane. It's important to capture the nuances of that B-52 in the silhouette so it's very recognizable as a B-52: the long thin swept back wings, 4 engine pods each with 2 engines, narrow long fuselage, high tail fin etc. There would be whispy contrails streaming back from those engine pods. Then flying out of the gear from the right is a simple paper airplane, with streaks behind implying motion. Then around the gear would be compass rose directions (N, S, E, W). Google "Compass Rose" to see examples of classic, semi-ornate direction graphics. Then perhaps simple embellishments around or in the gear to give the whole work a technical "engineering" feel. And I'm hoping all this can be incorporated in a semi-simple design. I'm open to monochrome, or maybe 2 color with the gear blue and the rest black, or whatever your artistic eye thinks would look best.

Attached are a couple pictures illustrating this idea, but don't get too hung up on these pictures, I'm looking for creativity and originality here. The first picture is my untalented stab at the basics of the tattoo. The second is my daughter's take on it.

Looking forward to what the creative, artistic minds out there can come up with! Thanks
