Contest Brief
Nations Online is a small browser-based 4X game. 4X is a genre of strategy-based video and board games in which players control an empire and "eXplore, eXpand, eXploit, and eXterminate". In particular the game is influenced by games like Civilization (latest game http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Civilization_V).
The game has a strong multiplayer focus, but can also be played alone. The goal is to grow your own nation by founding cities, constructing buildings and land improvements, researching technologies and waging war with other nations and other parties. The most important buildings apart from basic infrastructure are the World Wonders which offer unique bonuses and are based on actual historical world wonders (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wonders_of_the_World), such as the Great Pyramid of Giza, the Temple of Artemis and the Hanging Gardens of Babylon.
The game takes place on a hexagonal grid (see screenshot1.jpg for a screenshot of an early prototype of the game). The interaction between players revolves around fighting (war), trading and politics. The game can be won by achieving different goals such as scientific, military or cultural dominance.
I need a logo for the game that will be displayed prominently on the login page (see screenshot.jpg for current text-only "logo"). The logo will also be displayed smaller in other places. The new logo should consist of the text "Nations Online", possibly decorated / with a modified font, and a symbol that is relatively simple (not too many details). I have no particular ideas regarding color. But it should probably work with the background image in screenshot.jpg.
Relevant keywords that could be used for inspiration for the overall design of the logo: Hexagons, Pyramid, Greek, Roman or Chinese Architecture, Columns, Famous Empires and Rulers. But I'd also be interested in other ideas!
P.S. I added template.jpg if you want to use the current login screen as an example background for the logo.

Thanks for all the great submissions already! At the end I will consider all logos with 4 or 5 stars first! Actually the difference between 4 and 5 stars is quite subtle, they're both very good. At any rate, I will ask other people for their opinion on all logos in the end to find the best one.
