Matte Painting needed for movie.

The film’s story setting is Hong Kong in 1941. I need a colonial style hotel building in foreground, with background of Hong Kong city & harbor & hills at NIGHT. I have created a very rough mockup example to use as a guide. Here are a few notes about the digital matte painting.

1. Digital matte painting size is 3840 X 2160 pixels. Delivered as both Photoshop file (with layers) and TIFF.

2. Old Hong Kong buildings / view / style from 1930s / 1940s (don’t use more modern buildings / Hong Kong photos as reference)

3. Name of hotel is “Royal Hotel”

4. Hotel should only be a medium sized building, about 3 stories tall. Only show the 2nd & 3rd stories of the building & roof. Colonial style hotel building.

5. The mockup I created is only for reference, as obviously the perspectives are wrong regarding the hotel building and background image.

6. The scene is at NIGHT.

7. Do NOT feature trees or plants in the matte painting foreground, as trees or plants would move in the wind which is impossible to recreate that movement in a matte painting, so to avoid that issue, only feature solid objects (buildings) in foreground. Distance background objects can included forested hills, boats in harbor… as long as they are small. The matte painting image would be featured in the movie onscreen for about 5 seconds.

8. Try to make the digital matte painting photo realistic so that it can blend into the overall film better.

Please remember this matte painting need to be of a slightly high angle, rooftop level so that we can see the city buildings and harbor in the distance. This needs to showcase Hong Kong from the 1930s. Here is a good link for the look of the city (the buildings shown are major landmarks of Hong Kong) during the 1930s era: https://gwulo.com/atom/13927

black and white or in color? I mean as much as night scene allows using of colors? Also - when you say you need layered photoshop file - do you need anything separated on different layers or it can be one solid layer but you need just psd format?

  Color, probably a bluish moonlight color for a realistic look. I would like the SKY and HOTEL building to be on separate layers, as could adjust those elements if needed on PSD format (TIFF format can be solid layer).
