students are required to write an essay for their new venture, of their choice, that provides a crisp and appealing description of their chosen business idea/s behind the venture and an explanation of its unique value proposition. The idea/s for students’ new venture should be chosen and developed either from the guided walk around campus or from their reading of any of the course materials. However, students are not restricted to using the same idea/s that were previously used for their group presentation and each student may choose her own, personal idea.
As students’ essays will be written exclusively for academic examiners they must show a critical understanding:
1) Of one of more entrepreneurship theories that are outlined in class, &
2) Of how their chosen theory or theories may help in guiding their choice of business idea/s and in assessing & developing them in the market.
Students should choose two entrepreneurial theories (and only two theories) to guide their choices in this essay. First, a theory of entrepreneurial opportunity should be chosen among three choices presented in lectures, and this theory should be drawn on to explain the student’s choice of entrepreneurial idea. Additionally, a theory of entrepreneurial development should be chosen among several theories in class, and this theory should be drawn on to explain one or more possible ways, again at students’ discretion, in which their ideas may be developed in the market. The sections that must be included in students’ essay are as follows:
1. Summary of students’ entrepreneurial idea and its value proposition,
2. Critical discussion of students’ two entrepreneurship theories, &
3. Development plans for students’ ideas based on their chosen development theory or theories.
