Akilah means `Intelligent one` in Swahili. There is a structured social order in the elephant’s lifestyle. The females spend their entire lives in tight family groups made up of mothers, grandmothers, aunts, sisters and daughters. The eldest female normally leads the group. Adult males prefer to live a bachelor lifestyle.
Cast in the age old “lost wax” bronze casting process that dates back thousands of years, each sculpture is expertly finished by hand to create the unique details. This ancient bronze casting process enhances every detail of the original clay sculpture created by the artist.
Every sculpture has been given an advanced treatment by applying a protective coating, a technology that was developed in the USA. Extensive finishing work is done on our bronze range here in Knysna by our well trained staff. Once the final stage of polishing and finishing is done, each piece is then carefully treated with layers of anti tarnish protective coating, in preparation for the painstaking process of hand painting the contrasting detailing onto the silver plated sculptures, or hand polishing the classic bronze finished pieces.
The bronze sculptures are suitable for indoors and outdoors, whilst the silver sculptures are better suited for indoors. Bronze sculptures placed outside will naturally oxidize, which adds to the beauty and characteristic feature of this metal.
