Part 2 – Design work ( programming language “Java”)
To design and develop a distributed environment, a Bulletin Board system. The core functionality must include the following requirements:
1. The system should support a number of different topics. Each Topic will have a Title and a Topic Owner. The Topic Owner will be the person who will create the Topic by posting the first message with the particular Title.
2. Any user of the system can browse a list of Topics, and by selecting a particular Topic the user can then retrieve all posts on that Topic held in the system.
3. Only the Topic Owner can delete a Topic. When a Topic is deleted, ALL messages under that particular Topic will also be deleted from the system.
4. Users interested in a particular Topic can request that the system notify them when new messages are received relating to that Topic. These users should also be notified when the Topic is deleted by the Topic Owner.
5. You can add one more extra feature in addition to the above criteria which can be considered as ‘quite interesting’, such as ‘Private message’, etc.
• The application MUST have a suitable graphical interface. Don’t spend too much time on making a flashy appearance which will have little value if it does not have the main features. You can use any suitable graphics interface/software/builder to create the graphical interface.
Final Outcome
- Your report must provide all the necessary explanations and design details about the proposed application.
- It should also include software details including Flow chart, Class Diagram, Case Diagrams, code developed, and the graphical interface. Explanation for testing should also be given which should include test data, expected results, and screen shots showing actual operation of the system.
- The report should have a brief discussion of how the application can be tested for the multi-user aspects of the system.
- User manual giving details for installing and operating the application should be added in the Appendix.
