Academic Writing Short Answer Questions

I require short answer responses to questions listed below that provide a deep analysis of the issues presented, evaluating alternative answers based on various sources - both provided to you (see attachments) and also requiring some research on your part. You will need to research 1 - 2 recent issues (less than 2 years old) that have an Australian context. Please attached document - task description; for further details. DISCUSSION QUESTIONS 1. Had you previously heard of the Club of Rome and its Limits to Growth report? Do you think you should have – perhaps at school or through the media? Why do you think the report was so widely ignored and discredited? Do you think they were scaremongering? 2. Do you really think there could be a “sudden and uncontrollable decline in both population and industrial capacity” within the next 50 years or so? If so, why do you think most people dismiss this possibility? 3. In "Lifeboat ethics" (Hardin, 1974, September), Garrett Hardin argues that giving food aid to people in over-populated regions is counter-productive, drawing upon an analogy of an already full lifeboat in the ocean surrounded by people wanting to be saved. He argues that those in the lifeboat cannot take on more people because then everyone will perish. Do you think the analogy is valid? How do you think we can best help over-populated countries? 4. In his TED Talk on population Hans Rosling argues that population will only be under control when the poorest people in the world are lifted out of poverty. What do you think? Is there enough time? Is there the will in the wealthy countries to allow it to happen? Word limit: There is no upper word limit for each question. You can write as much as you need in order to answer the question.
