Hi mbishton, I worked during eight years as Product Designer on products requiring high esthetical quality / finishing (including resin / fiber parts) on complex shapes, involving high quality Surface Modeling. I also experienced revese ingeneering technics during the development process of some parts. It sounds like you are reverse engineering this part and much more than modeling is required. As a mechanical engineer, I can accurately measure the piece, identify the critical interfaces, and replicate the part in SolidWorks 2012. I would require having the piece to ensure quality.
