story 1
Short love story. A man and woman work in adjacent buildings (small buildings). They both park in the same spot and run across each other and make a few comments to each other. They again cross each other at a restaurant (close to work) and they run across each other without noticing. They have similar tastes in food, car, etc, and have similar jobs (designers). They are both lonely and buy a membership in an online friendship website and meet each other in a chat. They chat cautiously When they finally meet formally, they see that they order the same things, they drink the same thing, they have a lot in common. The beginning of the relationship and the end of the story is in that climatic moment where they "discover" each other for the first time and it seems they were made for each other (or so it seems). The comedy is introduced through the accidental encounters, her coat gets caught in her car's door, and he helps her open the car and break loose. They crash into each other at the restaurant and are embarrassed. They catch each other observing a singing bird in the parking lot and are again embarrassed and drive away. etc, other comedic like situations may be included.
story 2
A young Mexican man, Jorge, has arrived at the USA illegally to earn money to send money to her mother and sick grandmother. He is working with other young Mexicans doing work for families in a neighborhood. His friends tease him because he does not want to participate in parties and drinking and seems nostalgic for his home. A neighbor of the house they rent is an old man, George, that lives alone and speaks some Spanish. He begins a friendship with the old man, in which old man describes to him crossing the Himalayas in the front machine gun sphere of a B-17, during world war II, a scene he still remembers with pride and wonder. He describes the japanese planes attacking them and passing close to his place in the plane in flames. The old man gets sick and asks the Mexican guy to help him for a while. The Mexican guy goes into the house and finds pictures of his town and pictures of his mother and grandmother. By chance he has reunited with his father. In this ending climax, they became aware of their true relationship. The comedic aspect comes into play with his friends and his lack of knowledge of the language and culture. For example, Jorge is slim and not too tall and a tall, strong american woman becomes interested in him. She exercises a lot in her job and is capable of lifting Jorge. His friends find this amusing, and he is nervous and embarrassed. Jorge encounters other comedic situations in trying to communicate with the girl friend and in trying to understand the modern gadgets he has never seen before in his town, escalators, rotating doors, etc, Jorge has a strange day when he sees a man dressed as a woman ridding a motorcycle, a black american man with a Mexican sombrero (hat) dancing in his car and a woman punching a man, which he has never seen in Mexico. Jorge comes from a conservative, non aggressive, religious family and is surprised by the differences in culture, technology, values, etc. His friends can also be used as comedic elements.
