i can write a bash script that can do this with sed/awk. or may i suggest to deliver a python script that does the same. the good thing about python is that you can use it also from mac or windows. but your wish is my command :)

Hi, You could try creating a file and saving it as a bash file and give it proper permission using chmod #!/bin/bash nslookup ipaddress. nslookup ipaddress Note:ipaddress be replaced with the ip of which the hostname need to be found out. Regards, Uday

Hi, I have an overall experience of 6 years in bash scripting. The script will use reverse address resolution technique to find the domain name of the specified IP addresses. It will provide the output giving the IP and the its related domain.

I intend to make a clean script, which receives an input file with the IP list, then search for all domain names generating an output file with the IP format - Domain name.

If I understand correctly, you need a script that would determine the domain assigned to an IP. Unless you have special access to a WHOIS service, there will be a limit on the number of domains you can lookup during a certain period of time. So this would be more difficult if you're wanting to process a large list of domains. Regards, Brian Salisbury
