My team is trying to design an app that gives users an awareness of the various deals in town. Many a times, we know of good deals through word-of-mouth, from friends, colleagues, or even chance encounters in shopping malls or roadshows. Our whole idea is to bring these ‘word-of-mouth deals’ online, for the benefit of everyone. It is similar in concept to [login to view URL] or Groupon, just that they provide deals based on partnerships with various retailers or agents, and ours captures more than what is offered by them and the info comes from the general public. The portal will be kept simple for ease of use and navigation. It will consists of categories like dining, fast-food, IT & Electronics, Baby and Children, hotels, airfares, attractions, fashion, home furnishings, membership, supermarkets, general merchandise etc. The list has yet to be finalised as it will be subjected to popularity and whether deals exist for that particular category. For a start, for ease of usage, we will not require any user registration. My team will populate the categories with some current deals on offer, while users can just go into the app, browse through the various offerings, and populate the list by entering their own info/findings. For example, a user can simply type in ‘1-for-1 dinner buffet @ the Line’ under ‘DINING’ category; another user can enter ‘Staycation offer – S$230 nett for one weekend night at Fairmount Hotel’ under ‘HOTEL’ category, or ‘25% off petrol at all ESSO stations till end Aug 14’ under ‘PETROL’ category, and so on… it will be no different from some of the forum posts, just that our app will cover a lot more categories; in fact we hope to cover as many categories as possible, as long as there is demand for them.
