Asp.net DB Master/Details View

The project consists of displaying records on an asp.net page ([login to view URL]) from a table in the database. The table contains a list of tasks. The task records are displayed in a **gridview** control at the top of the page. When the user selects a task record in the gridview control, the task details should appear in a **detailsview** control underneath. The user should be able to update the record from the detailsview control. However there are a few requirements in how the records should be displayed and updated. ## Deliverables ## Background The project consists of displaying records on an asp.net page ([login to view URL]) from a table in the database. The user should be able to update the record from the detailsview control. However there are a few requirements in how the records should be displayed and updated. The file [login to view URL] file contains the sample Visual Web Developer 2008 Express Edition website as well as ProjectInfo.pdf. ## More Details This project is a small proof-of-concept for a larger project. The project displays a list of tasks and allows the user to assign the task to a different user. A sample web site (WebSite2) is included in the attachment. The site has been developed using Visual Web Developer 2008 Express Edition. The website also has a small database which uses SQL Server Express 2005. A number of roles and users have been setup using the ASP.net Web Site Administration Tool. The roles are * group1 * group2 4 users have been setup: * g1user1 and g1user2 have been assigned to group1 * g2user1 and g2user2 have been assigned to group2 These roles and users are in the default database [login to view URL] database. In addition two extra tables have been added into the database. * TblTasks which contains the task records * TblStatus which contains the status lookup records The website contains a master page and a [login to view URL] page. [login to view URL] uses the master page. [login to view URL] contains a gridview control and a listview control underneath. Two datasets have been created. Currently the gridview control is bound to the tblTasks table through the dataset. The detailsview control is bound to the record which is selected in the gridview control. ## Requirements The following lists the requirements for this project. 1. On the gridview control the statusId currently contains a number (e.g. 1). This should automatically display the corresponding StatusText from the tblStatus table. So for example if the gridview field contains 1 then the field should display ?€œOpen?€ 2. When the user chooses select in the gridview control the record should be displayed in the detailsview control. 3. The user should be able to update the following fields in the detailsview control * UserName * DateClosed * StatusID The other fields should be readonly 4. The username field in the detailsview should be displayed as a combo box. The drop down element of the combo box should be populated from the group2 role (i.e. g2user1 and g2user2). The user should be able to select one of these users. The selected user will then be used to populate the username field in tblTasks. A dataset should be used to manage the user roles. 5. The dataclosed field in the detailsview should use the Calendar control so that the user can select a date 6. The status field in the detailsview should be populated from the tblStatus table. The statusId should be written to the tblTasks table when the update button is selected 7. The dates should not display the time. They should only display the date. 8. If possible the colour of the text in the gridview status field should reflect the status. For example if the value is 1 or (?€œOpen?€) the colour should be green. This is optional. 9. Under the detailsview control there should be an Update button. When the user selects the Update button, the fields in the detailsview control should update the gridview control and the tblTasks table The Visual Web Developer 2008 Express Edition project which is included in the zip file should be updated to reflect these requirements. The Copy WebSite option was used to create the installation files which went into the zip file. Any coding should be done in vb.net. Data Sources should be used to interface with the user groups.
