Assign Unique Filename & Create Customer Alerts

Part 1. Change to Unique Filenames • We receive many files with the same filename. • We need to store them in the same document library in SharePoint. • The proposed system must rename the file and give each a unique filename. • It should store the original filename in metadata. • The proposed system may use a temporary document library which receives the file, renames it, and sends it to the final destination document library. • It might be that we create a temporary folder called “incoming” and another one called “doc store”. We send documents to “incoming” and then the system renames them and sends them to “doc store”. • The naming convention used for unique file names is not important so long as it is simple and each document name is unique. • The solution should be packaged as a “SharePoint Feature” so that we can deploy it to a SharePoint installation. • We should be able to configure the incoming email address (like a document library) and the final destination library. • The system shall have accompanying documentation • [login to view URL] • [login to view URL] Part 2. Alert with link to “Edit Item” • This function should be triggered when a new record is added/created in a document library or list. • The system shall send an email to a user/users which we choose. • The email shall contain a link to the item, to the item’s parent container, similar to an standard alert. • The email shall contain a link to the item’s “Edit Item” page. So that with a single click, the user can begin editing the properties of the item. • A user should be able to add this functionality to any document library or list, on any SharePoint site without any coding experience. • The system shall have accompanying documentation. • Part 2 should be compatible with Part 1. So the Alert would be configured on the final destination of Part 1, so that the user can enter relevant metadata for the new uniquely named file.
