Hi I'm a python/Django web app developer with 10+ years experience. From your description your main problems with be updating from Python 2.* to 3. This is much more dependant on the additional modules you are using as the updates here could have resulted in some rewrites. There are a few issues with certain class types, but these can be updated without much of an issue Updating from Django 1.* to 2.* is less of an issue. In most cases Django 2.* still supports the same code layouts as 1.*, but there are a couple of exceptions. There have been a few items that have been depreciated and replaced For postgresql, it should not really be an issue to upgrade the database. the update have been adding new features which you will not have been using, however if there is an issue there are migration tools, or we can just dump the data and reload into an updated version. As for me, as stated I have been using Django and python for a long time, both python 2.7 and python 3.*. I have also used django from 1.2 to 2.1 as well as a lot of extra modules like drf, tastypie, allauth and quite a few others. On a pure python side, I have also done work with Pandas, Nympy, requests, and pdf lbraries I am also well versed in linux server set-ups and directly using postgres, as well as myswl, and NoSQL systems such as MongoDB. Hi. This is the suggested way to do it: 1. First I will backup everything you have to a specific place. 2. Clone your project into a different place, so that i can work on it without disturbing your current workflow. 3. I will piece by piece move your whole project to latest python and django and fix all incompatibilities. 4. I will write a script that will go through your all pages of your old site and make sure it is the same on the new one. 5. I will test your site for general bugs and add latest security updates. 6. After you test the site and everything works fine. I will freeze your old site so there will be no changes. Do a migration of the old database data to the new one. And direct your domain to new site. 7. Your old site will still be available for some time just in case some emergency happens and you need a fast restore to your old site. After you and your users test the site for a week and everything works smoothly I will remove old site and you can continue your work. The work will be high quality and timely. During the whole process I will communicate the status of the project so that you know how everything is going.
