determine fit tollerence in a brake piston

We have very old brake piston where 2 pieces need to be a nice & tight slide fit, both pieces are hard chromed but also have groove for soft seals. The issue is, If we use the seal tollerence from Hallite , The seal tollerence on the barrel is +-.08 , so if the bigger tollerence is +.08 & we make the piston surface H9, It could clash, or it could go the other way & be sloppy. We need the profesional engineering standard USA for this application. So what should surface A tolerance be ?
