Node.js + Express Back End Software Developer for Database Integrations

We're hiring a remote, part time, contract software engineer primarily to build integrations between our customers' Quick Base applications and various third-party software applications. Quick Base is a cloud low-code application development platform that has a mature XML API and a RESTful JSON API in development ([login to view URL]). Ordinarily there will be 10-25 hours of work per week, but there are ups and downs. Some weeks (and months) are very slow and others are very busy. We are looking for someone who can make a long-term commitment and be both flexible and responsible. * Fluent spoken English is a requirement. * Do NOT attempt to call me or to circumvent Upwork! * Independent freelancers only -- NO agencies, groups, or companies. Responsibilities * Create and deploy software (see categories of development below) to meet requirements. * Participate in requirements gathering meetings with customers to understand their processes and how they need our software to work. * Analyze and maintain existing software. * Design scalable, testable, well structured, documented code. * Discover and fix programming bugs. * Calculate realistic estimates of hours to complete programming projects. Categories of Development * Native Quick Base: Configuring Quick Base tables, fields, forms, and automations using the Quick Base interface. * Quick Base webhooks: Configuring webhooks to send payloads to APIs when certain events happen in the system (records created, edited, deleted). * Server-side automations: These query Quick Base data, perform calculations, and save changes back into Quick Base. These may be invoked via a Quick Base webhook (we often design server routes with the intent that a webhook will invoke them), or run as part of a scheduled job. * Server-side 3rd party API integrations: These are server-side automations, with the addition of working with a 3rd party API. * Front-end development: Occasionally, we do simple front-end things using JavaScript, CSS, and HTML, and sometimes using Vue.js. Technical Qualifications General back end skills: * Node.js + Express web server experience; strong JavaScript skills, and good understanding of route handlers on the web server. * Experience using APIs, and a willingness to pick up new APIs on an ad-hoc basis by reading the documentation. * Relational database experience. * Familiarity with “cron”-style or batch jobs for overnight processes; we manage several scripts that do recurring jobs according to a schedule. * GitHub and Heroku Git repositories are where all of the code is kept. Front end skills: * Comfort writing basic user interfaces using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. * Familiarity with Vue.js is a plus
