I had to do something like this recently with our migration to Drupal 7 from an older propietary system. Taxonomy didn't make the jump (because it hadn't been tagged) so I had to write a custom module that looped thru and did an entity wrapper function to add the selected taxonomy term to the appropriate nodes. Since I've already done this in a similar fashion, I would be able to get this part done very quickly. I can't speak on the Yoast module, but, I would be willing to look into it.
